August 29, 2013 - KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI

Tuesday, Kansas City Mayor Sly James will join with a wide range of supporters, including educators, members of the business community, civic leaders, local elected officials and even Kansas City celebrities, to raise awareness of the connection between school attendance and academic achievement. This action is in conjunction with the national Campaign for Grade Level Reading’s efforts to declare September as Attendance Awareness Month.  Month-long efforts to highlight the importance of school attendance will be promoted on social media and tagged, “#attendanceworksKC.”

“Simply put, students can’t learn if they aren’t school,” said Mayor James.  “It’s important that every child in this City, regardless of which school district they are enrolled in, goes to school every day.”
