Mayor James Issues Statement on SB 575

January 28, 2016 - KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI

Mayor Sly James issued the following statement today in response to action on Senate Bill 575 in the Missouri General Assembly:

“Removing Kansas City from Senate Bill 575 is a step in the right direction, but this is a local control issue that needs to be put to rest.

“The local earnings tax was, is and remains a local-control issue. Cities — all cities — should have right to decide how to govern themselves. That is why we oppose this ill-advised legislation.

“I’m extremely grateful to the Kansas City business, civic and neighborhood interests and public safety representatives who worked feverishly to oppose this legislation and to area’s General Assembly delegation for their efforts on behalf of Kansas City.”
