KANSAS CITY, MO – Despite the summer heat, Mayor James is bringing holiday cheer to Kansas City today with the launch of a “Christmas in July” fundraising campaign to benefit The Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund.
Each year, The Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund raises funds to help thousands of underprivileged Kansas Citians through monetary gifts, holiday parties and toys. The fundraising campaign typically begins at the end of September and runs through the end of the year. This year, the campaign hopes a special July “blitz” will increase individual donations and ultimately increase the impact of the program.
“It warms my heart to see the impact of The Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund on our community each year,” said Mayor James. “This July campaign provides an opportunity for more Kansas Citians to donate early, and ultimately raise more funds to help more people.”
The Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund is working with longtime partner, Mix 93.3, to promote the campaign by running radio ads and digital advertising. A new partnership with AvidMobile, a Kansas City-based mobile technology company, adds an innovative component by enabling donations from a smartphone or mobile device by texting the word “CHRISTMAS” to 72727.
“Thanks to our friends at Mix 93.3 and AvidMobile for promoting this worthwhile program and for making it easier to donate through 21st Century technology,” said Mayor James.
The campaign will run throughout the entire month of July. The Mayor hopes individuals may want to participate by giving $1 per day or $31 for the month. In December, the donations collected through both campaigns for The Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund will be used toward The Fund’s mission to provide assistance to underprivileged families in Kansas City in an efficient and honorable manner that will enhance their enjoyment of the holiday season.
