Mayor Sly James issued the following statement this evening.
While I’m saddened by Dr. Green’s departure, I am thankful for the tireless and courageous service he gave to the students of Kansas City Public Schools. I wish him every success in his next chapter.
He put the needs of students first. He gave his heart and soul to increase the quality of education for students in our city. For all that, I’m deeply grateful.
His leadership shaped a new path forward. I believe that Kansas City Public Schools will continue on that path.
We have learned a lot in recent years about how strong and steady leadership can change the course of an institution. Working together, I know that we can find a new superintendent who will pick right up where Dr. Green left off.
