THE HISTORY OF MAYOR’S CHRISTMAS TREE FUND
The Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund, a nonprofit organization, has been around since the 19th Century. It began with Mayor George Shelley when he purchased a Christmas Tree and prepared food baskets for the poor with his own money. Since then the fund has been sustained by the generosity of Kansas Citians.The mission of The Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund is to provide assistance to underprivileged families in Kansas City in an efficient and honorable manner that will enhance their enjoyment of the holiday season.The Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund provides gift cards to individuals who demonstrate financial need and meet the eligibility requirement.

Printed copies are available at the Mohart Center located on 3200 Wayne Ave, Kansas City, MO 64109. The Mohart Center is open from 9AM – 5PM Monday through Friday.
